The camp, built in 1931, lost 23 cabins, a lodge, an arts and crafts hut, a ranger's house and a director's cabin, said Chris Long, a Camp Fire USA camp and club coordinator. Wolahi also lost four campsites and one of two outdoor amphitheatres. "It was very special to a lot of people," she said. "We always called it 60 acres of heaven." Camp Fire USA is a national youth agency that runs camping and educational facilities for students from preschool to high school. Long said the facility was used by youth organizations, church groups, private organizations and large groups of everyday campers. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, roughly 1,200 people used the camp, which was nestled between mountains and dotted with pine trees.
